F.A.Q.s and Policies

For pet parents, the quality of care your pet receives while you’re away is paramount. When determining who will care for your pet, you’re sure to have many questions.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions and our policies.

What is a Meet and Greet?

You’ll have an initial consultation with Tacia Staton, the owner, and your primary pet sitter. During this meet and greet, we’ll let the pet sitter and pets meet each other so everyone is comfortable. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions, as well as show us any special needs your pet or home may have.

We’ll do a walkthrough of your home so we can see where you keep pet food, toys (be sure to show us which toys are your pet’s favorites!), cleaning supplies, and anything else you use to care for your pets.
We’ll ask for detailed instructions on your pet’s daily routine and questions about how you want your pets cared for. Our goal is to maintain your routine with your pets as much as possible so your pets stay stress-free while you’re away. We ask that you fill out your online Client and Pet Profile completely before the meeting.

Your initial Meet and Greet is complimentary.

If a client requires a second meet and greet prior to the start date of service for the sitter to become reacquainted with the pets or to show us anything new, there will be a $25 charge.

What is in-home pet sitting?
In-home pet sitting is a sitter coming to your home to render service to your pets. Whether it be feedings, walks, medicine administration or yard/litter pickup we have you covered! The visits are customized to meet the needs and routines of your pets. The sitter generally comes 1 to 4 times per day. Your sitter can take care of your home as well, they will bring in the mail/newspaper, pick up packages and flyers, adjust your TV or radio, alternate lights and blinds and water plants. This gives your home a “lived-in feel” to deter intruders.
Do I need to give you keys to my home?
We require two sets of house keys. One for the sitter who will be caring for your pets during the time of your scheduled services and one set that stays in our safe at the office for emergency purposes only. We take special precautions to protect you and your home. Keys are labeled with special coding so that they will never be tied to an address if misplaced. We will collect your keys at the initial Meet and Greet.

If you choose not to leave keys with us between visits, we can personally deliver back to you after you return home or mail to you certified mail for a $15.00 fee. For insurance and liability purposes, we can’t leave keys somewhere “hidden” on your property or left in your home on the last scheduled visit.

What kind of pets do you care for?
We provide services for dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, small caged animals, reptiles, and fish. If your pet is not on this list, call us!
What services do you provide?

We offer the following:

  •   Dog Walking – 30-minutes, 45-minutes, 60-minutes
  •   Dog & Cat Visits – 30-minutes, 45-minutes, 60-minutes
  •   Overnight Care – We will stay in your home for the evening and morning caring for your pets.
  •   Pet Transport – We will transport your pet to the vet, groomer, etc. when you aren’t available.
Can you administer medication to my pets and does it cost extra?
All of our pet sitters are able to give pills, liquids, topical medications, as well as injections like insulin to pets at no extra charge with your scheduled visit.
How do I schedule service?
Registering with Katie & Company Pet Sitting and scheduling your reservations is easy. As a new client, you enter all of your information into our secured and encrypted pet portal system which is available in both an app and a desktop version.
The Time To Pet App makes it simple and easy for you to request new services, check scheduled visits, update pet info, pay invoices, view and send messages to our staff. We are also available by email and have convenient phone hours as well.
How much notice do you need to schedule future services?
We ask that you schedule your services as soon as you can as we do book up quickly. Especially during the holidays, we suggest giving yourself ample time to be sure your pets are on our schedule for services.
How many visits a day do you provide for pets?
We require at least two (2) visits per day for dogs and at least one (1) visit per day for cats and all other pets while you are out of town traveling. No exceptions will be made. This is for the health and well-being of your pets, and the safety of your home. Time spent outside depends on the breed, age, and health of your dog.
Who will be caring for our pets?
All of our pet sitters are carefully selected through a rigorous screening process. They are mature, responsible adults with a devotion to animals. Each one must pass a thorough background check and you will meet your assigned pet sitter at the Meet and Greet. We want you to develop a relationship with your pet sitter so that you and your pets will be comfortable.
Will we have the same sitter at each visit?

We prefer to keep the continuity of the same sitter with the same pets and we will do everything possible to make that happen. However, there may be times when a sitter is unavailable for illness, vacation, etc. We will always have a qualified back-up to accommodate your appointment. If this does occur we will contact you before services are to begin to get your permission.

How will I know if my visit was done?
Our pet sitters use an app on their smartphones that GPS timestamps their arrival and departure time. If you request a dog walk you can see where your dog has walked as well. All this information will be sent automatically to you via email and/or text once the visit is complete. The digital report will also include what potty business was done, a checklist of requests, a photo of your pet and a personal note from the sitter. We are committed to that promise and this leaves you with no mystery as to what your furry friend received at each visit.
My friend/relative/neighbor will also be caring for my pets while I am away. Is this ok?
No. We will not share pet sitting responsibilities with friends, neighbors or extended family members. Because we carry industry-specific liability insurance, we must be the only pet care providers visiting the home in your absence. Other visitors to the home for the intention of pet care expose the pet sitter to excess liability and will null and void our insurance.
Why Use a Pet Sitter instead of boarding?
There are many pros to choosing a pet sitter over boarding your pet in a kennel. Stress associated with boarding kennels can make your pet anxious and unhappy. Furthermore, we provide one on one, individualized care and your pets end up with little to no distraction in their daily routines. Your pet will not have the exposure to illnesses from other animals that can occur in a multi-animal facility. They’ll get their exercise and be able to relieve stress playing in their normal environment and you get the added benefit of knowing someone is watching your home while you’re away.
Why Use a Pet Sitter over a Friend or Neighbor?

We understand the intense responsibility we take on when caring for your home and pet and we take our job very seriously. Our sitters are mature, reliable, dependable, experienced and honest. At Katie & Company Pet Sitting we strive to give you a worry-free experience every time. Using a friend, neighbor, family member, or kid down the street may seem like an economical option but you need to ask yourself, the following questions:

Are they reliable?

Will they show up every day as needed?

Do they have jobs/responsibilities or time demands that could interfere with them caring for your home and pet?

Are you asking too much of them?

Will your pet’s needs be their priority or an obligation?

Have you imposed on them enough?

Will they know how to recognize if your pet is in distress?

Beyond which veterinarian to take them to, will they know how to respond should an emergency arise?

I’m new to having a pet sitter. Is there anything else I need to know?
Looking for pet care should be a happy experience and not a stressful one. We know when choosing the right company, you are looking for pet sitters who will care for your pets as if they were their own. We also know you want to feel confident that your pet care provider is responsible and trustworthy with not only your beloved fur babies but your home too.
We are available to answer any questions you may have, so never hesitate to call or email us. Katie & Company Pet Sitting and all sitters are Bonded and Insured. Our pet sitters are all background checked to ensure the safety of your home and pet, and are all Pet CPR/First Air Certified. The pet sitter is strictly prohibited from bringing anyone else to your home, including any of their own pets, children, friends, or other family members. There are NO blackout dates! If your pet’s primary sitter is suddenly unavailable for a booked service, we will always have a back-up sitter available.
What happens if my return travel is extended or delayed?
We always keep our client’s pets on our schedule until we hear from the client that they have arrived home safely. Should you have to extend your travels or become delayed, you can be sure that your pets will continue to be cared for by your pet sitter until you return. Your pets ALWAYS come first.
What happens if I am away and there is a tornado or other weather issue?
We encourage all of our clients to have a contingency plan should an emergency occur – such as a tornado, ice storm, power outage, etc.
We are committed to providing our clients’ pets with the best care possible during this time. However, our safety coming and going from our clients’ homes must be considered as well as the safety and wellbeing of our own homes, families, and pets.
We recommend that our clients emergency plan be set in place prior to traveling and to discuss this plan with us to be sure it can be implemented should an issue occur.

Do you pick up after my dog?
We certainly do! We pick up after your dog on walks and potty breaks that happen during your visit. We carry biodegradable poo bags and pick it up and dispose of it properly. We treat your yard and your neighborhood as we would our own. We never leave a mess and we make sure our furry friends do not take care of business in your neighbor’s yards or gardens. Messes in your home are also always cleaned up as well. If you require additional poop patrol for your complete yard, we can do that as well at an additional cost.
When is payment due and how do I pay for services?
